What is Honda Sensing®?

When reviewing the Honda Sensing® active safety suite, CNET has stated that it has “now been fitted to 1 million vehicles.” So, you’re probably wondering, then, “What is Honda Sensing®, and why is it so popular?” Honda Sensing® is a safety suite that’s standard on many new Honda models, like the Honda Accord and Honda Pilot. With Honda Sensing®, you can drive more confidently in Watford City and Dickinson, knowing it has got you covered. That said, if you so desire you can turn off Honda Sensing®. Ryan Honda has all the details below.

What’s Included in the Honda Sensing® Package?

Honda Sensing® is a comprehensive bundled safety technology suite with a bunch of amazing technologies to help you keep more alert and even prevent accidents before they happen on New Town streets:

  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)—uses a camera to find speed limit signs and alert you about them.
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)—uses a small camera to “see” road markings and alert you if you start to veer off-road.
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)—helps your vehicle brake if a collision with a vehicle in front of you seems probable.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)—helps you maintain a preset following distance behind the vehicle that’s in front of you and adjusts when that car leaves the lane it’s in or another one takes its place in front of you.
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)—automatically adjusts the vehicle steering to get you back into the center of your lane if you begin to veer out of it.

Can You Turn Off Honda Sensing®?

You might wonder to yourself if Honda Sensing® is truly worth it if you don’t plan to use its features all the time. You may also wonder if you can turn off this technology suite. The answer is yes, and yes, it arguably is still worth it for its potential benefits!

The above having been said, how do you turn off Honda Sensing®? If you’d like to turn off RDM, you simply press a button under ECON. LKS can be turned off by pushing the MAIN button on the steering wheel until the indicators in the instrument cluster are gone.

Looking to customize your Honda Sensing® settings via the optional central touchscreen? All you have to do is press “Settings,” “Vehicle Settings,” and then “Drive Assist Setup.” This lets you change your RDM warnings, distance warnings for CMBS, and much more.
